How Primepac Helped a Sports Sunscreen Brand Build Packaging That Performs

A real packaging story showing how bold colour and smart design helped a sports sunscreen brand stand out and feel premium.

About Aussie Sunmate

Aussie Sunmate is a professional sunscreen brand created for people who move. Not casually, but properly. Training, competing, and spending long hours outdoors. The kind of conditions where products are tested, not just used.

Every Detail Mattered

From day one, the brand worked with a simple belief: Every detail mattered. This extended beyond the formula and SPF to the full user experience—how the product feels in the hand of the end user, how it looks after repeated use, how it performs when things get hot, sweaty, and fast-paced.

When this project first came to us, the brief sounded straightforward.

But as we got into the details, it became clear this wasn’t about choosing a packaging and adding artwork. The brand’s attention to detail set a clear expectation, and the packaging needed to live up to that.

Finding the Right Foundation

We started by stepping back and looking at what the product was really asking for.

The obvious starting point was a standard white printed tube. It’s a common solution, efficient, and perfectly serviceable for many products. But in this case, it didn’t quite align with the brand’s ambition.

The colour felt applied rather than integral. White seams showed at the shoulder and the sealed end. And once we considered how the product would be used—outdoors, in motion, under pressure—it became clear the packaging needed more integrity.

It wasn’t a question of improving the print. It was about choosing the right foundation.

That Led Us to Injection-Coloured Tubes

Instead of printing onto a white base, we worked with PMS-matched masterbatches, building colour directly into the plastic during production. The result is a tube where the body, shoulder, head, and sealed end all share the same colour—clean, consistent, and uninterrupted.

Aussie Sunmate decided to pair this with a matte surface finish, not only as a design flourish, but for practical reasons. It improves grip, reduces glare, and delivers a more controlled, professional feel in the hand.

This is where packaging stops being decoration and starts becoming structure.

The Difference Is Clear

Once everything came together, the difference was immediately obvious.

The colour appeared deeper and more confident. Bold colour blocking held its shape without visual breaks. And even under repeated use and pressure, the tube retained its finish and integrity.

These aren’t details most consumers would consciously list—but they feel them. And that’s where good packaging does its best work.

From our perspective as a packaging supplier, this project perfectly illustrates how the right technical choices can elevate brand value. Injection-coloured tubes offer a more advanced solution for brands looking to move beyond standard options and create a truly considered experience for their end users.

Their complex production process makes them especially suited to designs with bold, large colour blocks, allowing brands to establish strong, consistent colour ownership. At the same time, the technical sophistication raises the barrier to imitation, providing added protection against copycat packaging.

By combining functional performance with visual impact, this approach transforms packaging from a short-term solution into a long-term brand asset. Most importantly, it reflects a brand willing to invest in the details that truly define premium.

In the end, the packaging does exactly what it should.

It supports the product.

It reinforces the brand’s positioning.

And it performs consistently in the environments it was designed for.

When every detail matters, the role of packaging is simple—but not easy.

It has to get every detail right.
